One-Day Nature Tour along inland cliffs

When I stand on the top of the cliff and feel the sun and the wind, I can let my worries go. But it is not just because this is my happy place that take my guests here. This place is a delight for nature lovers! The frequent wind along the cliff attracts birds of prey. Kestrels are residents here. So are golden eagles, but they have a much larger hunting ground so I can’t guarantee that we see them. In addition, passing buzzards, short-toed eagles, honey buzzards and even griffon vultures are attracted to the cliff face, that pushes the wind straight up to carry them.
The same wind can make this place a pretty hostile environment for plants. Trees are stunted and there are many Alpine plants that normally grow at twice the altitude. The abundant flowers attract butterflies and this particular area extends “my” butterfly season with at least a month.
The cliff is pretty long and for the best experience I take you to two parts of it. On both locations we park the car away from the cliff and approach it from above, by foot. This way, the altitude differences are fairly limited. I have a third place in mind as well, but usually we see so many flowers and butterflies that there is no time for that. Around midday I will find a place to sit down for a picnic lunch. In between those two localities. And before I forget: the panoramic views of the landscape are breathtakingly pretty too!

What to bring:
- Comfortable hiking shoes
- Weather-appropriate clothing
- Water bottle
- Packed lunch for the picnic (if not pre-arranged)
Important notes:
- Small group size (maximum of 6-7 participants) to minimize disturbance to wildlife. I do not combine groups!
- Suitable for all ages but we have some altitude differences and walk over uneven rocks.
- The tour is conducted only in reasonably stable weather because of the exposed locations. Be prepared for wind though.
